What are some common fabrics?

2025-08-08

When shopping on a daily basis, many people encounter questions such as "What material is this dress made of?" and "Will this material deform after washing?" To help you understand common fabrics, I have compiled some methods for distinguishing between common fabrics.

    The first type: hemp

It is a plant fiber, known as a cool and noble fiber. It has good moisture absorption, fast moisture release, low static electricity buildup, high thermal conductivity, rapid heat dissipation, cool wearing comfort, no clinginess after sweating, good washability, and good heat resistance.

    The second type: mulberry silk

Natural animal protein fibers are smooth, soft, and lustrous, providing a warm feeling in winter and a cool feeling in summer. When rubbed, they produce a unique "silky sound" phenomenon. They have good extensibility and relatively good heat resistance, but are not resistant to saltwater erosion and should not be treated with chlorine-containing bleach or detergents.

    The third type: artificial cotton

Made from natural cellulose-containing materials such as wood, cotton linters, and reeds through chemical processing, it possesses the basic properties of natural fibers, with excellent dyeing performance, good fastness, good draping, good moisture absorption, cool to wear, and resistance to static electricity, fuzzing, and pilling.

    The fourth type: polyester

It belongs to Polyester Fiber and possesses excellent elasticity and recovery. The fabric is crisp, wrinkle-free, with good shape retention, high strength, and good elasticity. It is durable and has excellent light resistance, but it is prone to generating static electricity and has poor dust and moisture absorption.

    The fifth type: plush

Also known as sea tiger velvet, it features flat and upright hairs, dense and sturdy fur, good warmth retention, a bright and soft velvet luster, a full and thick feel, warmth and lightness, and excellent durability.
