What are the characteristics of polyester fabric?

2025-04-10

Polyesterfabric is a type of chemical fiber Clothing Material. To understand what polyester is, we can consider its characteristics, which can be summarized into the following five aspects.
Firstly, Polyester Fabric boasts exceptional elasticity. When repeatedly twisted and stretched, it quickly regains its original shape without leaving any wrinkles, a quality unmatched by other fabrics. From this perspective, shirts made of polyester are durable, wrinkle-resistant, and require no ironing. Indeed, polyester stands as a rare and valuable material for outerwear.
Secondly, polyester fabric has poor moisture absorption. Shirts made of polyester fabric do not absorb sweat well, and wearing them can feel hot and stuffy. They are also prone to static electricity and dust accumulation. However, this has its advantages. Clothes made of polyester fabric are less likely to deform after washing and are easy to dry

Thirdly, polyester fabric boasts excellent heat resistance. It can be said that polyester exhibits the best heat resistance among chemical fiber fabrics and possesses strong malleability. If made into a pleated skirt, it can maintain its pleats very well without requiring excessive ironing. At the same time, polyester fabric has poor resistance to melting, and it is easily burned to form holes when exposed to sparks. Therefore, extreme caution must be taken when wearing it.
Fourthly, polyester fabric exhibits good light resistance. Clothing made from polyester is generally more resistant to sunlight than natural fiber fabrics. Therefore, it is basically safe to expose a polyester shirt to direct sunlight without worrying about any adverse effects. This characteristic makes the light resistance of polyester Fabric Comparable to that of acrylic fabric.
Fifthly, polyester fabric exhibits excellent chemical resistance. Shirts made of polyester fabric are not significantly damaged by acids or alkalis, so some bleaches and oxidizers have no effect on them. Moreover, polyester clothing is resistant to mold and insect infestation. This characteristic also results in poor dyeability of polyester fabric, making dyeing relatively difficult. However, once dyed successfully, it is not prone to fading.
